The Unknown You
charcoal pastel, wood sealant, and charcoal on paper
This is another Andy Warhol inspiration. I saw a "Marilyns" portrait that was black on black and it looks like a photo negative unless you see it from a funny angle. Then the painting looks correct. This is accomplished through different levels of glossiness. I wanted to see if I could do a similar effect but with drawing by hand instead of screen printing. I used black charcoal pastel on paper and covered it with a wood sealant (leftover from something else) which created a semi-gloss look from an angle. Then I drew on that with charcoal.
